GAA Analysis - GAA Clubs affiliated in 2010

In an article in today's Irish Times, Cork's current under 21 manager John Cleary makes reference to the 150 or so clubs in Cork playing gaelic football. Cleary sites the number of clubs as the primary difference between the fortunes of the Cork senior team and that of their Munster counterparts, particularly Clare and Tipperary.

With this in mind, we at arantaobhline.com set about analysing the number of affiliated GAA Clubs accross the country and the world. The analysis below was done on the clubs affiliated in 2010 based on the Annual Report presented at GAA Congress in 2011.

Please bear in mind that the figures may include parishes where seperate Football and Hurling clubs exist (e.g. Sarsfields and Glanmire in Co. Cork) or 3rd level or inter firm teams that may not be "clubs" in the traditional sense of the word.

Interestingly, there are 2615 GAA clubs affiliated around the world today. 2272 of these are on the island of Ireland, with 343 outside of ireland.

The breakdown of clubs by county makes for very interesting reading and really gives the analyst a sense of the disparity between so called "stronger" and "weaker" counties.

The breakdown of Provincial and Regional boards is as follows:

Finally, we wil look at the region outside of Ireland with the greatest number of GAA clubs:
